- Collinsville vs. Sand Rock
Collinsville’s Varsity Boys took away a big win against Sand Rock Jan. 8, 70-41.
The first period ended with Collinsville up by 5, 13-8 and at the end of the half the Panthers had double the points Sand Rock had scored: Collinsville 34, Sand Rock 17. They maintained the led at the end of the third period, 49-31, and would hold Sand Rock to only 10 points in the final quarter of the game to claim the win, 70-41.
Leading scorers for Collinsville were:
Gavin Long, 21 points
Jake Middlebrooks, 7 points, 9 rebounds
Zach Clanton, 16 points, 5 rebounds
Sand Rock’s Ty Traffanstedt scored 17 points and had 7 rebounds; Cameron Gifford had 16 points and five rebounds.
Collinsville Varsity Girls vs. Sand Rock
Collinsville’s VarsityGirls lost to Sand Rock, 77-12.
Chloe Stephens was leading scorer for Sand Rock with 25 points while Zoey Handy had 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Panthers’ junior varsity boys brought in a win against Sand Rock, 31-27.
Geraldine vs. Sylvania
The Geraldine Bulldogs won at home against Sylvania Jan. 5, 84-53, bringing the team’s record to 12-4 overall, 3-1 in the region.
"I was pleased with the effort getting back into area play,” Geraldine Coach Jeremy Smith said. “We did a pretty good job with their up-tempo style. We are trying to get better every game."
Geraldine had four players who scored in double-digits:
Connor Johnson - 22 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists
Redick Smith - 18 points, 3 rebounds
Lucas Bryant - 16 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists
Jaxon Colvin - 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists
Reddick Smith’s performance in the game pushed him past the 1,000 career point mark.
“We currently have three 1,000-point scorers on the team - Connor Johnson and Jaxon Colvin,” Smith said.
Logan Wilks led scoring for Sylvania with 17 points.
Fort Payne vs.
Scottsboro
The Fort Payne Wildcats won Jan. 5, defeating rival Scottsboro, 73-69. With the win, the Wildcats record improves to 19-1. The Wildcats were scheduled to take on Gadsden City in Gadsden Tuesday night.
Thursday’s home game against Bradenton Christian will be a “Blackout Human Trafficking” event, with all attending asked to wear black to raise awareness about human trafficking as part of National Human Trafficking Month.
Plainview vs.
Guntersville
Plainview’s Varsity Boys team dropped a game Saturday to Guntersville – 65-57 – at Snead State Community College, bringing the team’s record to 15-4 overall, 4-0 in the area. The Bears were slated to travel to Sylvania for an area game Tuesday.
The Lady Bears will take on Sylvania girls Tuesday as well. The Lady Bears boast a record of 17-4; Sylvania’s girls are 6-12 overall for the season so far.
Fyffe vs. Sylvania
Fyffe Varsity Boys take on Sand Rock Tuesday, after a loss Jan. 6 to Sylvania. The Red Devils record on the season is 10-10 overall; 2-1 in area play.
Sylvania Girls vs. Fyffe Girls
Sylvania’s Varsity Girls team defeated Fyffe’s Lady Red Devils Jan. 6, by a score of 68-35. The loss puts the team record at 12-8 overall; 3-0 in area play heading into a game Tuesday night against Sand Rock.
Sylvania’s record is 6-12 overall; 3-1 in area play as they took on Plainview Tuesday night.
