Plainview Shocks the Chiefs

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — Fans were on the edge of their seats as Plainview defeated the North Jackson Chiefs, in a 36-35 overtime victory on Friday night.  

After a scoreless first quarter marred with penalties, interceptions, and turnovers, the Plainview Bears saw the endzone first with 11:53 remaining in the first half.  Brody McCurdy bulldozed his way in from 2-yards out for the score. The extra point attempt by Geo Chapparo made the score 7-0. The North Jackson Chiefs answered back quickly with an 58-yard touchdown pass. The PAT failed making the score 7-6. North Jackson struck again with 3:30 remaining in the first half on a 89-touchdown reception.  The Chiefs went for 2 and went up 14-7. With :23 remaining in the half, Logan Bell had a pick 6. The two-point conversion by Noah White gave the Bears the 15-14 advantage going into the half. 

With 5:10 remaining in the third quarter, McCurdy added another 9-yard rushing touchdown to the Bears total. The kick by Chapparo was good, giving the Bears the 22-14 lead.  With 2:36 remaining in the third quarter, North Jackson scored on a 31-yard rushing touchdown. The extra point attempt failed. With :47 remaining in the third, McCurdy scored on a 7-yard touchdown to go into the fourth with the 28-20 lead.

North Jackson scored with 4:07 remaining in regulation play and went for two to tie the game 28-28.

North Jackson won the toss to go into overtime play. The Chiefs scored on the third play of overtime with a 5-yard rushing touchdown.  The extra point attempt was good. Plainview answered back scoring on fourth and eight with a 8-yard connection from Noah White to Brody Parker. The Bears went for two and Brody McCurdy scored from 3-yards out to win the battle, 36-35.

The Chiefs finished the night with 386 rushing yards and 126 passing yards. Plainview had 222 rushing yards and 63 passing yards for the night.  

Brody McCurdy led the Bears with 175 total yards and three touchdowns. 

The Plainview Bears have been awarded the Southern Torch Team of the Week for their remarkable efforts in their overtime victory.

The Plainview Bears (1-1) will begin region play this week as they host the Geraldine Bulldogs (1-1).
