COLLINSVILLE, Ala. — The Collinsville Panthers defeated the Crossville Lions 40-13 on Friday.
Crossville struck early, with 8:35 remaining in the first, with a 52-yard touchdown by Trace Allen. The 2-point conversion was stopped by the Panthers, giving the Lions the 6-0 advantage. Collinsville answered back with 7:13 remaining in the first quarter, with a 45 yard quarterback keeper by Kaleb Jones. The kick by Jason Perez was good, giving the Panthers the 7-6 lead. Collinsville never looked back.
In the second quarter, with 11:52 remaining, Perez kicked a 48 yard field goal. Collinsville went up 10-6. Dalton Hughes scored on a 10-yard stampede down the field. The kick by Perez, padded the Panthers lead 17-6. To close out the first half for the Panthers, Jones made a 58-yard connection to Garrett Skelton, for the score. The kick by Perez was good and the Panthers went into the half with the 24-6 advantage.
The third quarter saw the Panthers scoring on a 52-yard run by Michael Tucker, a safety after a high snap on Crossville punt, and a 2-yard pass from Jones to Carmen Barkley giving Collinsville the 40-6 lead.
With 0:37 remaining in the game, Crossville scored on a 7-yard run by Noah Williams. The extra point attempt was good, making the final score of the game, 40-13.
Kaleb Jones completed 5-of-8 passes for a total of 98 yards and two touchdowns for the night.
Kolby Lesley led the Lions with 16 carries for 75 yards.
Both teams will begin region play this week. Collinsville (2-0) will travel to face the North Sand Mountain Bisons. Crossville (0-2) will travel to face the Etowah Blue Devils.
