Your Guide to Championship Saturday

Your Guide to Championship Saturday

If you're a basketball player, you dream of cutting down the net. Tonight three teams will get to use their scissors as it's finally Championship Saturday at the Sand Mountain Tournament. Cinderella tries to take down Goliath in the Varsity Boys matchup, while we may need oxygen just to watch the Varsity Girls Championship Game.

Semi-finals Results (Varsity Boys)

#1 Geraldine Bulldogs 69 - #4 Fyffe Red Devils 38

#6 North Sand Mountain Bison 50 - #7 Sylvania Rams 70

Semifinals Results (Varsity Girls)

#1 Pisgah Lady Eagles 66 - #4 Section Lady Lions 69

#2 Plainview Lady Bears 72 - #6 Ider Lady Hornets 40

Varsity Boys Matchup

#1 Geraldine Bulldogs (11-1) vs #7 Sylvania Rams (5-4)

The Caleb Haynes Show continues tonight as the Junior big man is averaging 29 PPG in the SMT...and shooting around 95%. Haynes has been the story of the tournament, but it's going to take the supporting cast hitting some big shots for Cinderella to be crowned. "Grizzly" Adams will be called on more tonight than he has been in the first two rounds and Cambron is going to have to find his stroke, as he's yet to get it going this year. But the big question is, can the zone oriented Rams out-rebound the Bulldogs?

Pick your poison. In the opening round Keylon Harris got into foul trouble early and Cade White lit it up. Last night Hollywood decided to go for double figures. Oh, yeah...and there's Zack Nelson. Geraldine played what I consider an average game for them last night and blew out the reigning Champs. While I'm anxious to see the Haynes v Nelson matchup, it's the other areas on the floor where the game may be dominated by the Bulldogs.

Southern Torch Pick: Geraldine Bulldogs

Game Time: 7:30 PM

Varsity Girls Matchup

#1 Plainview Lady Bears (11-2) vs #4 Section Lady Lions (9-2)

Section played the most exciting game of the tournament on Thursday night knocking off the #1 seed Pisgah Lady Eagles, 69-66. The "battle at the charity stripe" would be a fitting title, as 60+ Free Throws were shot in that one. Section is as deadly as any team in the tournament from behind the arc and will look to run and gun with the mirror image Lady Bears.

Plainview has yet to be tested in the Tournament with 18 and 32 point wins against Fyffe and Ider. They'll look to suffocate the Lady Lions with their press that can only be described as "controlled chaos". Lowden, Willingham, Graham, Brown, Kirk, Bell, Veal, Terry, etc...you know the names. The pace of this one will be blinding and should be the best watch of Championship Saturday.
