BLOUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The J.B. Pennington Tigers defeated the Geraldine Bulldogs 42-14, in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Football Playoffs.
After forcing a Bulldog punt, J.B. Pennington put points on the board first with 8:00 remaining in the first quarter, a 20-yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was good to give the Tigers the 7-0 advantage.
WIth 10:21 remaining in the second quarter, the Bulldogs tied the game 7-7 with a 25-yard stampede into the endzone by Anthony Baldwin. The Tigers answered back with 7:58 remaining in the second quarter to go up 14-7. Seconds later, Caleb Hall sailed down the field 70 yards untouched, for the score. The point-after attempt was good, tying the game 14-14. WIth :56 remaining in the half, Pennington scored a touchdown. The point-after attempt failed, making the score 20-14. Geraldine fumbled the ball one play later, and the Tigers turned it into a touchdown. The extra point failed but gave J.B. Pennington the 26-14 advantage going into the half.
On the opening drive of the second half, the Tigers scored a touchdown. The successful two-point conversion made the score 34-14, with 9:34 remaining in the third.
The J.B. Pennington Tigers scored one last time with 4:36 remaining in the game, to make the final score 41-14.
