Friday Night Nuggets

Friday Night Nuggets

The top 4 seem decided, now it's just jockeying for position to close the year.

A regional QB showdown is on tap and a tough test for the maniac Hornets as we look at this weeks Nuggets...

Crossville Lions (0-7) at White Plains (1-6)

This is it, the battle of the cellar dwellers. The Lions go on the road to face a beatable foe...and Crossville has struggled mightily on the road as opposed to playing incredibly competitive at home.

The Wildcats are only averaging 16 points per contest and are coming off of a 40 point home loss to Jacksoville. They may have mailed it in at this point, so a determined Lions team could grind one out on the ground here.

The good news: White Plains is not good.

The bad news: Crossville is similar.

Crossville PK

Valley Head Tigers (3-3) at Jacksonville Christian (3-4)

Last year we broadcasted this game expecting a shootout. JCHS QB Daylon Brackett was coming off of a 500 yard - 7 TD performance and looked like he may be the one to derail the Tigers perfect season. He didn't. The Tigers DESTROYED Brackett and put up 42 in the first half.

While this Valley Head team doesn't quite have the firepower of last years squad, I expect a similar end result.

Valley Head -19

Collinsville Panthers (3-4) vs Gaston (4-3)

It's been a painful 4 weeks for the Panthers, and Gaston comes to town feeling pretty good about their chances in this one.

The Panthers just can't seem to score in this stretch, and removing the Fyffe game, Gaston is only giving up 15 points per on the season. Unless the line has taken a big step in practice this week, Jalyn Martin is going to find it tough to break in to the next level.

Collinsville +13

Geraldine Bulldogs (6-1) at Sylvania Rams (3-4)

The Rams will try to keep their postseason hopes alive while the Bulldogs will look to stay undefeated in the region. Before the season this was definitely one we had marked on the calendar, but a number of key injuries to both teams has really taken the shine off of this game.

Jake Maddox and Dillon Cambron are two of the most talented QBs around so this game should have a number of highlights...I just expect the Bulldogs to have more of those highlights.

Geraldine - 19

Ider Hornets (5-2) at Cleveland (7-1)

Easily the most intriguing game on the board this week. Ider will test their brut force against an air aggressive Cleveland team. Fyffe is the only team to hold Cleveland under 37 points this season (43 PPG), so it will be crucial for this Hornets powerful ground game to control the tempo and keep their defense on the field.

Jarrett Palmer continues to put up huge numbers, including 134 yards rushing and 4 TDs last week in a big win over Collinsville. Happy hunting, Hornets.

Ider +9

Plainview Bears (6-1) vs Brindlee Mountain (1-6)

Brindlee Mountain is the Vanderbilt of this region. They're there, but should probably focus on academics.

The Bears will once again hope to get out of this one healthy as they'll close their campaign at Geraldine (6-1) for the region title and vs Fyffe (7-0) for the county bragging rights.

Bears BIG at Homecoming.

Plainview -42

Fyffe Red Devils (7-0) at West End (1-6)

Another business as usual game for the powerhouse Red Devils. This one will get out of hand early and the freshman will get some more valuable reps.

At this point I believe everyone is waiting on October 30 to get here because weeks 8 and 9 seem like just a formality.

There isn't much to say about  this Fyffe team that hasn't already been said, but I'll say it again anyway...this is one of the best teams to ever come through DeKalb County.

Fyffe -41
