Friday Night Nuggets

Friday Night Nuggets

Unfortunately, Week 6 means we're on the back 9 of 2014.

Crossville Lions (0-5) at Saks (5-0)

Saks comes in as a HEAVY favorite, averaging 50 points per game against good teams. Crossville just doesn't matchup any way you look at it and it's upsetting to have to witness a team that's been traditionally rich in football have to face this brutal 4A region outgunned and outmanned.

Crossville +42

Valley Head Tigers (2-2) at Spring Garden (3-2)

The Tigers took it to Spring Garden last season with a 34-7 victory, but this Valley Head team doesn't seem to have as much fire power as they did in 2013. If you look at common opponent Cedar Bluff, Spring Garden won 21-20 while Valley Head was blown out 41-13.

The Tigers are averaging 27 points per game on the road but are 1-2 in those games. The "Stump" will need to plow the road and control the clock in this one for the Tigers to come out on top in a crucial region game.

Valley Head +6

Sylvania Rams (2-3) at Sand Rock (4-1)

This should be a good matchup and could be the difference in the Rams playing in November or not. Sylvania passes the airport test and really has to forget about last week. In the grand scheme it had zero effect on their season unless they don't move forward.

Sand Rock is coming off of a 35-13 drubbing of Crossville and will look to continue to roll on the ground, averaging 194 yards per game. Plainview's spread offense carved the Wildcats up and the Rams will be looking to do similar things to a secondary that has it's problems. But don't forget, it's being played at The Rock...which means the Rams are already trailing.

Sylvania +4

Collinsville Panthers (3-2) vs Section (2-3)

The Panthers come stumbling in to the Game of the Week after a shock loss to Horseshoe Bend. Section didn't fare much better last week after getting blanked 39-zip by Plainview.

Tanner Nelson comes in with 963 yards through the air with a 12/3 TD to Int ratio. The Lions don't have anyone that can matchup with WR Jordan "Part Sapling" Leath, so Nelson should surpass the 1,000 yard mark in the first quarter...maybe the first drive...maybe the first play. And there's no doubt Jalyn Martin will have more than 9 total yards Friday night. #TheHuntFor2K

Ider Hornets (3-2) at West End (1-4)

Someone get West End some extra padding for this one. The Hornets will be more than happy to continue their brut style against a West End team that has yet to win at home. Ider has played well on the road with their only loss coming to Gaylesville in week 3, so look for the stingers to ground and pound all night.

This is like sicking a pit bull on a poodle.

Ider -19

Geraldine Bulldogs (4-1) at North Sand Mountain (0-5)

Another week, another bad matchup for North Sand Mountain. Last Friday night, Ider hung 46 on the Herd with a similar style gameplan that the Bulldogs will impliment. I feel safe to say that Geraldine will go over half-a-hundred and get to 4-0 in the region. Even without Marcus Davis, the Bulldogs are putting together another very good season.

They'll be tested this season, but it won't be this week.

Geraldine -40

Plainview Bears (4-1) at Pisgah (2-3)

Payne Anderson returns to his old stomping grounds and will be eager to add to his senior highlight reel. Two pass happy teams will make for a fun watch, but looking at the numbers it won't be a dramatic watch. Unless Pisgah's "Superfan Marty" can get the home crowd into a raucous, the Bears are too good to stumble here.

Oh yeah...and they've won their last 20 against Pisgah.

Plainview -21

Fyffe Red Devils (5-0) vs Gaston (3-2)

Gaston did give Ider their first loss of the season. Is this an upset alert? A possible sleeper? The fly at the garden party? Are the Red Devils looking ahead? Hahaha, sorry...I can't even write this with a straight face.

Fyffe -44
