Friday Night Nuggets

Friday Night Nuggets

Week 3 should give us a true indication of who is real and who is smoke and mirrors.

Valley Head Tigers (1-1) vs Cedar Bluff

The Rolling "Stump" gathers no moss (?).  Look for the Tigers to dispatch of their semi-rivals and put an early season chokehold on the region. Feed the beast, Coach Higdon...feed him.

Sylvania Rams (0-2) vs Brindlee Mountain

Start #2 for young Roebuck. After he calmed down in the 2nd quarter he was a real dual threat. The Rams should pick up their first win of the season after dropping 2 heartbreakers in front of their home fans to open the year. They need this one as they embark on a 3 game road trip starting next week.

Crossville Lions (0-2) vs Hokes Bluff

Bad draw for the Lions here as Hokes Bluff comes off of a 35-7 win over White Plains. Keep grinding, boys...there are signs of life even if it is a slow process. Reality says if the Lions can just be competitive in this one it's a moral victory.

Collinsville Panthers (2-0) at Holly Pond

The 2k watch continues as Jalyn Martin has amassed 442 yards and 6 TDs to open the season, putting him on pace for 2,210 yards and 30 TDs. To be fair, this one would probably be a much better basketball game than football game as the Panthers should be too much for the Pond to handle.

Ider Hornets (2-0) at Gaston

The plot thickens for Tinker's Bruisers as they attempt to start the season 3-0. The Hornets need this one badly to keep the postseason in their sights as the schedule becomes fairly brutal starting next week. Either way, Gaston will have a lot of players needing ice baths on Saturday morning.

Geraldine Bulldogs (1-1) at Pisgah

There it is. Marcus Davis said just give me the ball. 225 yards and 3 TDs as the Bulldogs get back on track with a HUGE region win over the fighting braves of the Cayuhoga. This week they get a much less physical draw and a team that turned the ball over 5 times last week against the Rams. Expect a 2-0 region start and for this one to be all purple.

Fyffe Red Devils (2-0) vs Section

This one is merely a formality as the question is whether they score 50 or 60 against the Lions. As always with a heavy favorite (to put it politely), getting out of this game healthy is the chief concern. Last week, Will Brown injured the same shoulder that he separated last season. No word on his status for this one, but he's a luxury this week and not a necessity. If he needs some time to get back to 100% I think Big Red will be just fine on Friday night.

Plainview Bears (1-1) vs New Hope

Well, that escalated quickly. 44-0 against the Bisons as the Bears new spread offense looks like it fixed the kinks from Week 1. New Hope's QB is a monster and makes the team go, so this should be a great one to watch (which is why it's the #TorchGOTW). If the Bears can make the Indians one dimensional they should be able to send them back to the happy hunting ground and go to 2-0 in the region.
