The Final 2014 Southern Torch Power Rankings

The Final 2014 Southern Torch Power Rankings

11 weeks ago we brought you the Northeast Alabama Community College Season Preview and presented you with our preseason Power Rankings.

Official Preseason Power Rankings:

  1. Fyffe Red Devils
  2. Plainview Bears
  3. Geraldine Bulldogs
  4. Collinsville Panthers
  5. Sylvania Rams
  6. Valley Head Tigers
  7. Crossville Lions
  8. Ider Hornets

Each week we grade every team in DeKalb County based on a number of factors.

Rankings are based on:

  • Overall Record
  • Region Record
  • Head-to-Head Match-ups
  • Strength of Schedule
  • Margin of Victory
  • Coaching
  • Talent

Today as the season is officially over, we give you the final 2014 Southern Torch Power Rankings.

8. Crossville Lions (0-10)

The first winless season since 1952 for the Lions. Coach Clowdus will have to find a way to get more players to turnout for the Lions to have a chance in this brutal 4A region.

Points Per Game: 14

Average Margin of Victory: -25

Key Seniors: Brody White

7. Collinsville Panthers (4-6)

The Panthers first year in 2A didn't go as planned. After starting 3-0 the Panthers lost 6 straight before taking it to their old 1A rivals to end the year.

Points Per Game: 23

Average Margin of Victory: -5

Key Seniors: Jalyn Martin, Brady Osborn, Jordan Leath, Tanner Nelson

6. Sylvania Rams (4-6)

The Rams were bitten by the injury bug again this year but did manage to make the playoffs. The season was up and down, but ended close to where we thought it would.

Points Per Game: 20

Average Margin of Victory: -5

Key Seniors: Lucas Wooten, Dillon Cambron, Curtis Bethune, Skyler Chaney

5. Valley Head Tigers (5-4)

Coach Higdon put together another winning season for the Tigers, which is a real accomplishment when a 1A school loses that many starters from the previous season.

Points Per Game: 26

Average Margin of Victory: -1

Key Seniors: Ben Kirby, "Stump" Gregory, Dallas Phillips

4. Ider Hornets (7-3)

The Hornets were definitely the biggest surprise of 2014. They got their identity back as maulers and ended their season with a 30-6 win over Sylvania.

Points Per Game: 26

Average Margin of Victory: +8

Key Seniors: Jarret Palmer, Dillon Reed

3. Geraldine Bulldogs (8-2)

Jake Maddox said anything less than 10-0 would be a failure this season, but 8-2 is pretty good. A loss to Marcus Davis was huge, but I'm not sure if Davis would've made any difference in the Bulldogs final record. Another solid season for Coach Arnold.

Points Per Game: 22

Average Margin of Victory: +9

Key Seniors: Jake Maddox, Marcus Davis, Collin Kittle, Damion Totherow

2. Plainview Bears (8-2)

The "Dream Team" class didn't get to cross Fyffe off of their bucket list, but still put together a great season. A crucial offseason is in store for Coach Pruitt as he tries to figure out how to replace starters all over the field.

Points Per Game: 38

Average Margin of Victory: +23

Key Seniors: Jayse Pruitt, Scott McDaniel, Isaiah Glover, Payne Anderson, Cody Willingham, Chase Willingham, Josh Gravitt, Fernando Limon

1. Fyffe Red Devils (10-0)

A team for the ages. The Red Devils were never even challenged this season and could end 2014 with more than just the Power Rankings Championship.

Points Per Game: 55

Average Margin of Victory: +43

Key Seniors: Dakota Newsome, Austin Stiefel, Pancho Perez, Will Brown

Congratulations to Coach Paul Benefield and the Fyffe Red Devils for winning their second consecutive Southern Torch Power Rankings Championship!
