FORT PAYNE, Ala. — The Fort Payne Wildcats defeated the Springville Tigers, 38-14 on Friday night.
J.D. Blalock connected with Sawyer Burt on a 38-yard touchdown pass to give the Wildcats the 7-0 lead with 9:17 remaining in the first quarter. The Springville Tigers attempted a 23-yard field goal but missed it . Hunter Love dashed into the endzone from 4-yards out making the score 14-0 with 2:10 left in the first.
With 6:15 remaining in the second quarter, Springville scored to cut the lead in half to 14-7.
Blalock scored on a 74-yard quarterback keeper making the score 21-7 with 5:35 remaining in the first half. Blalock threw a screen pass to Love for the 30-yard touchdown, to make the score, 28-7 with .54 left in the half.
With 7:48 remaining In the third quarter, Alex McPherson drilled a 44-yard field goal to extend the Wildcat lead to 31-7.
With 10:04 remaining in the fourth quarter Love darted into the endzone from 1-yard out to give the Wildcats the 38-7 advantage over the Tigers. With .30 left in the game, Springville scored the last touchdown of the night making the final score 38-14.
‘We had a great team win on Friday. Our players and assistant coaches did a great job of executing the game plan”, stated Head Coach Chris Elmore. “We had big plays from several guys on the team. Our offensive and defensive lines controlled the line of scrimmage for the majority of the game. It was a great victory leading into our bye week next week.”
The Fort Payne Wildcats will have a bye week before hosting the Etowah Blue Devils on Sept 25.
