SARDIS, Ala. — The Geraldine Bulldogs defeated the Sardis Lions, 36-19 on Friday night.
With 9:12 remaining in the first quarter, Geraldine threw an interception. Sardis recovered for the score. The PAT was unsuccessful, making the score 6-0. On the next possession, the Bulldogs dashed into the endzone, went for two, taking the 8-6 lead with 6:08 left in the first.
In the second, Geraldine forced a punt. The Sardis snapper threw the ball over the kickers head. Geraldine recovered, resulting in a safety, to give the Bulldogs the 10-6 lead with 5:29 remaining in the first half. The Lions scored on a 75-yard touchdown run, the PAT was good, making the score 13-10 with 1:42 remaining in the second quarter. The Bulldogs fumbled the ball and Sardis took over the ball on the Geraldine 20 yard line. After a drive, the Lions scored. The PAT was unsuccessful but gave the Lions the 19-10 lead, at half time.
In the third quarter with 7:42 remaining the Bulldogs scored, to narrow the Lions lead to 19-17. . Geraldines’ Troy Willoughby scored on a 27-yard touchdown. The Bulldogs unsuccessfully went for two but took the 23-19 lead with 2:24 remaining in the third. As time was running out in the third, Caleb Hall dove into the end zone from 1-yard out to give the Bulldogs the 30-19 advantage over the Lions.
In the fourth quarter with 3:23 remaining, Hall scored on a 13-yard scamper. The PAT was not good but gave the Bulldogs the win with a final score 36-19.
Caleb Hall had 133 yards rushing on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns. Troy Willoughby ran six times for 54 yards with one touchdown. Drew Fowler had 44 yards on nine carries. Cody Satterfield ran eight times with 40 yards and a touchdown. Josh Garcia had eight tackles and one sack.
The Geraldine Bulldogs will host the Plainview Bears this Friday.
