ALICEVILLE, Ala.-- The Aliceville Yellow Jackets defeated the Ider Hornets, 46-6, in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Playoffs.
After a fumble on the snap, Aliceville scooped the ball up and took it in for the touchdown, with 8:58 remaining in the first. The extra point attempt by the Yellow Jackets failed, giving them the 6-0 lead. Ider turned over on downs with Aliceville on the 48. The Hornets held them and Aliceville was forced to punt. Ider started on the 22-yard line. After an interception, Aliceville took over on the 48. Aliceville sailed in for the touchdown, with :27 remaining in the first. The point-after attempt was good, giving the Yellow Jackets the 13-0 lead to close out the first quarter.
Aliceville threw a bomb for the Yellow Jacket touchdown. The extra point gave the Yellow Jackets the 20-0 lead, with 10:49 remaining in the first half. With 5:48 remaining in the second quarter, Hunter Robinson barreled into the endzone for the Hornet touchdown. The point-after attempt failed, making the score 20-6. Aliceville scored twice more before the half. Once with 4:54 remaining and again with :40 remaining in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets took the 33-6 lead into intermission.
The Yellow Jackets started the third quarter scoring with 10:57 remaining, to go up 39-6 over the Hornets. The Yellow Jackets scored once more with 3:00 remaining in the third quarter, making the final score 46-6.
The Ider Hornets finished the 2021 Season with a 7-5 record in Class 2A, Region 7 play.
