FYFFE, Ala,-- The Fyffe Red Devils defeated the Plainview Bears 45-19 on Friday night, giving the Red Devils 50 consecutive wins and 13 consecutive wins against Plainview. Southern Columbia Area High School in Pennsylvania, who held the nation’s longest winning streak, lost on Friday night. This loss gives Fyffe the nation’s longest football-winning streak.
Fyffe forced a fumble on Plainview’s opening possession. Logan Anderson recovered the fumble with 11:16 remaining in the first half. Fyffe capitalized on the fumble. With 10:01 remaining in the first quarter, Kyle Dukes walked in from one yard out. The PAT by Yahir Balcazar was good, to take the 7-0 lead. With 03:45 remaining in the first quarter, Logan Anderson stampeded in from 19-yard out. The point-after attempt failed. At the end of one, Fyffe had the 13-0 advantage.
Brodie Hicks started the second quarter with a 3-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed but gave the Red Devils the 19-0 advantage, with 11:21 remaining. With 7:07 remaining in the opening half, Plainview put their first points on the board with a Noah White connection to Josh Sandlin, for the 58-yard touchdown. The point-after attempt was blocked. Fyffe went into intermission with the 19-6 advantage.
Returning from the half, Fyffe took control of the ball game and never looked back. With 5:22 remaining in the third quarter, Kyle Dukes walked in another touchdown from 1-yard out. The point-after kick by Balcazar was good to take the 26-6 lead. With 3:00 remaining in the third quarter, Kyle Dukes scored his third touchdown of the night, from one yard out. The PAT attempt was blocked but gave the Fyffe Red Devils the 32-6 advantage. With forty-four seconds remaining in the third, Kyle Dukes scored his fourth touchdown of the night, bringing it in from 19 yards out. The PAT failed but gave the Red Devils the 38-6 lead going into the fourth quarter.
With 10:20 remaining in the fourth quarter, Aubrey Baker scored for the Red Devils from 12-yards out. The PAT by Balcazar was good to give the Red Devils the 45-6 advantage. With 5:13 remaining in the game, Noah White stampeded in from 3-yards out for the Bear touchdown. The PAT was good, making the score 45-13. With 1:58 in the game, Levi Brown brought it in from 10 yards out. The PAT failed, making the final score of the game, Fyffe 45, Plainview 19.
Senior Kyle Dukes led the Fyffe Red Devils with 131 yards on 18 carries and four touchdowns and was awarded the Southern Torch Player of the Week for his efforts. Brody Hicks had 64 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown. Logan Anderson had 64 yards on 8 carries and one touchdown.
The Fyffe Red Devils were named the Southern Torch Team of the Week. They will travel to take on North Sand Mountain on Friday. The Plainview Bears will host the Collinsville Panthers.
