Mickey “The Hammer” Henry, who owns 431 Sports Arena in Boaz, said the annual Master T Memorial Cup is one of his biggest events of the year.
The 19th anniversary of the Master T Memorial Cup is scheduled for Saturday, March 2 at the home of professional wrestling in Marshall County and on Sand Mountain.
The event honors Henry’s son, Travis, who died in a one-car wreck in March 2005. Mr. Cool, Mike Cooley, also died in the wreck, and both wrestled for Henry at 431 Sports Arena.
The Master T Memorial Cup also honors the memories of Cooley, Big Melissa Henry (Mickey’s daughter), Rodney J., Randy “Coots” Rogers and Johnny Cook.
“People come from all over to Travis’ memorial,” Mickey Henry said. “People who knew him when he was growing up always come back for this event.”
Saturday’s 10-match card includes midget matches, featuring Little Papa Pump, and a ladies match featuring April Rain.
Doors open at 6:30 with bell time at 8:30. General admission tickets are $5, and ringside reserved seats are also $5. Tickets are $1 for children ages 11-and-under, while children ages 6-and-under receive free admission.
Henry allows children to play in the ring before the show starts.
“This is fun for the whole family,” Henry said. “I don’t allow vulgarity.”
The Master T Memorial Cup is a fundraiser for 431 Sports Arena’s annual bicycle and toy giveaway at Christmas.
