Roberts received Service Award

Story By Mary Bailey

Marshall County Extension Director Kristen Roberson received the National Association of County Agriculture Agents 2025 Distinguished Service Award in Billings, Montana.

According to the official press release shared with The Reporter, the DSA award is a prestigious award bestowed upon just 2% of Extension Agents in the country.

Voted on by peers, individuals receiving this designation have made a significant impact in their county or region for more than ten years as it relates to work in agriculture, horticulture, forestry and natural resources, 4-H youth development or community development.

“I didn’t realize how big of a deal this award was until I got to Montana and was not only being congratulated every few minutes of the week by those from Alabama, but also those from across the country. I think the thing that makes it most special is that we are nominated and voted on by our peers. Those working with us day-in-and-day-out,” Roberts said of receiving the award. “Not only current agents, but retired agents and state specialists have called, wrote to me or even sent notes telling me how proud they are of me and how deserving of this award I was. It sure is nice to know we have folks rallying around us.”

Roberts said she is not a huge fan of recognition outside their organization, but it really means the most to her when folks recognize her passion and love for her job and the people she serves.

“When my coworkers across the state and country notice it that’s extra special,” she continued.

“No title or accomplishment I’ve ever received throughout my career should ever be attached to my name. I’ve only ever been successful because I have been a part of extremely dynamic, hard-working and passionate teams. Coworkers, Teachers, Parents, 4-H’ers and their families, Administrators, Community members and Stakeholders all make what I get to do every day the best job in the world.”

The National Association of County Agriculture had positive things to say about Robertson and her love of Agriculture.

“Kristen has served many roles during her 18-year Extension Career and is currently serving as Marshall County Director. She has successfully resurrected the largest youth animal science program in the State. A pair of 4-H Volunteers instilled in her a love for Agriculture as a teenager. She strives to do the same for the youth & families she serves and has a tremendous passion for being an advocate for local farmers and producers.”
