Bio:
I am a lifelong resident of DeKalb County. I graduated from Sylvania High School in 1999 and went on to attend NACC and JSU. I graduated from JSU in 2004 and taught 7-8 grade history and civics at Piedmont Middle School. After my first year of teaching I had an opportunity open up in the business world and was offered a position with Hudson Company in Henagar. I have been there since 2005 and have enjoyed being part of a team that has built a small business into the largest McDonald’s Restaurant contractor in the country. I have had experience working on projects in various states all over the USA. I worked my way up at Hudson to the position of Project Estimator, but was recently able to take a position as a Project Coordinator in order to be able to pursue other activities outside of work (Like running for Revenue Commissioner).
I married my wife April Stanford Wilks of Fyffe in 2002 and we have 2 children (Kaden – 6) and (StellaRae -2). Most of my time outside of work is spent with my family. I help coach Kaden’s t-ball team...and chase both kids on nights my wife works. April has owned her own business since before we were married as a hair stylist. She has worked at Gigi’s Salon in Rainsville for the last few years and I take care of all the accounting and license requirements.
We currently live on a farm in Fyffe. We attend Wills Valley Community Church in Fort Payne and have been going there since we moved home from Jacksonville. In some of my spare time in the past I have worked with individuals and families as a financial counselor, teaching and walking individuals through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University.
I believe the only thing we are entitled to in our country is opportunity. I believe Elected officials should work with the tax payers best interest in mind, not for their own personal gain. It is a service to the people to do the work of the Revenue Commissioner. I look forward to the opportunity to help make Dekalb county more fiscally responsible and effective in bringing in new industry. I have the philosophy that elected officials should represent the people to the government and not the government to the people.
Political Party: Republican
Political History:
I am a lifelong Republican and a charter member of the Young Republicans of Northeast Alabama. I will also be joining as a District 4 member of the DeKalb County Republican Executive Committee later this June. This is my first time to run for any political office. I want to stress the fact that I am not a politician, just an individual who wishes to serve the tax payers of this county and look out for their best interest.
