MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Judiciary Committee of the Alabama House of Representatives has stalled a bill that would allow medical marijuana in Alabama.

Republican Rep. Jim Hill (R-Moody), the committee's chairman, announced on Wednesday afternoon that consideration of the bill would wait until next week, pending possible changes to the legislation. The bill has already been passed by the Alabama Senate.

Passage of the bill would ensure access to medical marijuana through physicians and set up a governing body to regulate medical cannabis.

If passed, the bill would Alabama the 37th state to approve medical marijuana, according to a report from the National Conference of State Legislatures.
