The DeKalb County Republican Executive Committee met on Tuesday night to elect officers for the 2016 election cycle.
John Westmoreland (pictured above) did not seek a 2nd term as Chairman following a historically successful 2014 Election. In 2014 Republicans added BOE member Randy Peppers (R-Crossville), while Tyler Wilks (R-Fyffe) defeated Martha Crye-Ogle (D-Fort Payne), marking the first time in Alabama history that an incumbent Democrat Revenue Commissioner was defeated by a Republican.
The 2016 cycle is one that could have much more interest locally than the 2014 cycle, with the ballot carrying:
- Superintendent - Hugh Taylor (R)
- Board of Education - Terry Wootten (R)
- County Commission (2) - Shane Wootten (R) and Derek Caldwell (R)
- District Attorney - Mike O'Dell (R)
- Circuit Judge - Jeremy Taylor (R)
...not to mention the Presidential Election.
The new GOP Chairman is Mark Ford of Collinsville. Ford said his main goal was to "make the Party (GOP) more active and visible to the public, not just during Elections, but at all times."
Results:
- Mark Ford - Chairman
- Rodney Ivey - Vice Chairman
- Karen Caldwell - Secretary
- Jack Stiefel - Treasure
- Don Stout - State Executive Committee
- Scotty Vaughn - State Executive Committee
- Rodney Ivey - State Executive Committee
