Council sets public hearing for zoning ordinance

By MARY BAILEY The Reporter

The Boaz City Council met last week for their regular scheduled meeting where they immediately went into an executive session for the first 15 minutes.

After, Boaz Mayor David Dyar read and approved work session and council meeting minutes from the Monday, Oct. 14 meeting and then quickly jumped to new business.

Public Hearings

A Public Hearing to consider the adoption of an Ordinance to amend the City of Boaz Zoning Ordinance (Ordinance No. 2021-1154) and the Zoning Map of the City of Boaz. The Boaz City Council will discuss and vote on the rezoning of the properties along Sunview Place from R-6 Manufactured Housing District to R-2 Medium Density Detached Residential District due to the current zoning designation of R-6 limiting the use of the properties as these properties are non-conforming as manufactured home parks which restricts the properties of future construction of homes and replacement rendering the property unusable. Rezoning the properties R-2 will allow the property owners the ability to construct homes on their properties.

Prior to applying to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for park improvements, the City of Boaz is requesting citizen input concerning the City’s recreational needs. To provide a forum for discussion, an open meeting is being held during the City Council meeting on November 12, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Boaz Senior Center located at 112 St. Church Street.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the potential application for grant funding for recreational improvements at the Boaz City Sportsplex.

Anyone wishing to provide comments on the proposed park improvements is invited to voice their opinion at this meeting or submit written comments to Mayor David Dyar, City of Boaz, (256) 593-9537 david.dyar@cityofboaz.org within one week following the meeting. Contact Boaz City Clerk, Beth Stephens at (256) 593-9537 beth.stephens@cityofboaz.org with any questions or requests for information.
