Last week Southern Torch reported that Candidate for State Senate District 8 John Blackwell had dropped out of the race to enter the Congressional race in District 6.
Tonight, Southern Torch has confirmed that Gary Palmer will also enter the race and is thought of by many Alabama conservatives as the clear frontrunner in the current field.
"Gary Palmer is the president and CEO of the Alabama Policy Institute. Palmer currently serves on Governor Bentley’s Alabama Commission on Improving State Government. He is a founding director of the State Policy Network, the professional service organization for America’s state-based, free market think tanks and he served on the SPN board of directors for six years, the final two as president." - Alabama Policy Institute
Palmer and his wife, Ann, have three children and are residents of Birmingham.
