SYLVANIA, Ala. --- Sylvania City Councilman Larry Bailey is seeking another term. A lifelong resident of Sylvania, Bailey is seeking to continue serving its citizens and making his home town a better place to live.

A retired educator of thirty-one years, Bailey holds a bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University. Retiring in 1999, Bailey is proud to have served his community as an educator. He was first elected in 2012 to the city council.

For the past four years, it’s been Bailey’s honor to serve on the Sylvania Town Council and has worked with some excellent decision makers in his opinion. Currently, the town is in the beginning stages of a huge sewer upgrade that will greatly benefit the town, as well as the property owners. In addition, paving projects are set to begin on several of the streets.

Financially, Sylvania has seen improvements each year. This is Bailey’s home and he would consider it a great privilege to spend the next four years working together with the citizens of Sylvania, the backbone of the community, to move the town forward and ensure its growth.

When asked about future plans for the city, Bailey would like to continue to see growth in their local economy.

“We would like to continue to grow our tax base and bring in more businesses. We need more supermarkets, fast food chains, and stores to not only bring in more revenue, but provide more jobs for our citizens,” Bailey said.

Bailey is proud of the achievements of the current council and wants to continue to make strives to better the town he has always called home.

“We are doing everything in our power to make this a better place to live. I hope we’ll be able to lure more businesses in,” Bailey said, “That’s not to say we haven’t tried in the last four years, but that’s something we need dramatically.”

“We were able to receive a grant to fix our sewer problems, and that construction will begin in the fall. Mayor Gerald Craig has done a fantastic job on helping that process along,” Bailey said, “A new sewer system will help us draw in more businesses.”

“We have the same problems in Sylvania they have in all small towns, we’ve been addressing those issues, and by ‘we,’ I mean us, the police department, and everyone involved in the process,” said Bailey.

“It’s a place I’ve lived my whole life, and I’m very proud to call Sylvania my home,” added Bailey.

Councilman Larry Bailey would greatly appreciate your vote and support in the upcoming municipal election on August 23rd.
