GUNTERSVILLE, Ala.—A pair of young ladies from DeKalb County will soon take center stage in the theatre production of The Fabulous Fifties, a stage production by the Whole Backstage theatre in Guntersville.
Courtney Roden of Mentone and Megan Mitchell of Rainsville will appear in the play on June 24, 25, 30, and July 1, 2, at 7 p.m., with Matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, and on Sundays, June 26 and July 3.
The show sold out for all of the regularly-scheduled dates before a single performance of the production had even taken place.
“We are honored that our community is so supportive and enthusiastic about seeing our show,” Director Johnny Brewer said. “It is a great predicament to face when our audience buys out almost every seat before the production opens, and our cast is eager to step up with an extra performance.”
Also written by Brewer, this original musical revue is a collection of more than 70 beloved classic songs that will take the audience back to the carefree and endearing times of the 1950s, along with some doo wop music of the early 1960s.
The production includes timeless solos from memorable masters, such as: Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly, Connie Francis, Rickey Nelson, Sam Cooke, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Johnny Cash, Elvis, etc., combined with lots of dancing, and our ensemble sounds of The Four Seasons, Everly Brothers, The Platters, The Coasters, The Ronettes, The Chiffons, The Vandellas, McGuire Sisters, and others.
Brewer said he believes the show “will deliver a nostalgic and extraordinary experience for an audience of all ages.”
“Although this is our fifth full stage production of The Fabulous Fifties, it is only the second time it has been performed at The Whole Backstage,” Brewer said. “We have presented The Fabulous Fifties in several encore performances at various venues since its conception in 2005. As a result of numerous requests for more than ten years, we are very excited to return this show to our home stage. The birth of the 1950s “Rock and Roll” was a pivotal time in music, as this new genre emerged from the sentimental and celebration tunes of the 1940s into the distinctively unforgettable styles and harmonies of one of America’s favorite decades to remember.”
Courtney Roden of Mentone is the daughter of Kevin Roden of Rainsville and Stephanie and James Roberts of Mentone. Megan Mitchell of Rainsville is the daughter of Felicia Mitchell and Tommy Hicks of Fort Payne.
Tickets are on sale now for The Fabulous Fifties, and may be purchased at: www.wholebackstage.com, by calling the WBS office and ordering over the phone, or by visiting the office in Guntersville from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Adult tickets are $18 each, senior adult tickets are $16 each, and student tickets are $10 each.
