No. 3 Red Devils hammer Brindlee Mountain

GUNTERSVILLE — No. 3 Fyffe continued its dominating start to Class 3A, Region 8 play by blasting Brindlee Mountain 63-0 on the road Friday night, Sept. 20.

It was the second straight 63-0 victory for the Red Devils, who have outscored three region opponents 168-10. Fyffe improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Region 8 standings.

The Red Devils rocketed to a 35-0 first-quarter advantage against Brindlee Mountain.

Ryder Gipson returned the opening kickoff 62 yards for a touchdown just 12 seconds into the contest. Thirteen seconds later, Blake Dobbins recorded a 20-yard pick-six.

Dobbins’ only pass of the night was a 54-yard touchdown toss to Simon Hicks with 8:53 remaining. Maddox Doss scored on a 12-yard run with 5:47 to go, and Gipson’s 53-yard TD dash pushed it to 35-0 with 3:22 on the clock.

Fyffe’s Jesse Martin converted 7-of-7 extra points during the contest.

The Big Red Machine’s margin ballooned to 56-0 at the half. In the second period, Doss ran 35 yards to the end zone, Brody Badgett contributed a 12-yard TD run and Tucker Wilks scored on a 10-yard carry.

Fyffe’s only touchdown of the second half came from Hayden Parker, who sprinted 40 yards to the end zone in the fourth quarter.

Lucas Phillips kicked the last two extra points for the Red Devils.

Fyffe’s defense limited the Lions to one first down and minus 11 rushing yards.

The Red Devils ran 23 plays and gained 323 yards total offense, with 269 coming on the ground.

Fyffe steps out of region play on Thursday, Sept. 26, to battle Class 2A, No. 5 Coosa Christian. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 at Phillip Ellen Stadium in Gadsden.
