ree tax preparation is available starting this month at a site in DeKalb County.

The tax preparation site is courtesy of DeKalb County Council on Aging and RSVP of Etowah County.

Taxes will be prepared by IRS Certified Volunteers.

The service is open to adults of all ages for simple tax returns.

The location is the DeKalb County Council on Aging, 600 Tyler Avenue SE in Fort Payne.

Hours are 8 a.m. to noon on the following dates:

Feb. 15

Feb. 22

Feb. 29

March 14

March 21

March 28

You will need to call 256-845-8590 to schedule an appointment. Because there is limited space at the site, organizers ask that no additional people come with you. The only people who need to come are the participants who sign the tax return and their driver, if they need one. Masks will be available for those who request them.

No walk-ins will be accepted.

Please bring the following items with you:

Photo ID for you and your spouse

Social Security cards for everyone being claimed

Last year’s tax return

All W-2s, 1099s, and any other tax documents

If the train is parked on the tracks, find an alternate place to cross. It may stay there overnight.
