RAINSVILLE, Ala. — In a game that kept fans on the edge of their seat, the Fyffe Red Devils defeated the Plainview Bears, 63-59 to win the DeKalb County Basketball Tournament Championship for the second year in a row.
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Fyffe Red Devils had the 49-43 lead over the Bears. The Bears battled and got within 2 points, three times during the final quarter. With .17 remaining in the game, Cole Millican brought the score to 59-57 with a couple of free throws. With .15 remaining in the game, Godwin made two foul shots to bring the score to 61-57. Both teams battled for the final points, ending the game with a score of 63-59.
Parker Godwin led the Red Devils with 19 points and was named as Tournament co- MVP. Micah Johnson followed with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson was also named co-MVP. Xavier Works added 12 points. Cole Millican led the Bears with 37 points.
RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Collinsville Lady Panthers won the DeKalb County Basketball Tournament trophy for the fourth year in a row.
Collinsville defeated the Plainview Lady Bears, 40-28 in the Varsity Girls Championship game.
At the half, the Collinsville Lady Panthers had a 19-14 advantage over the Lady Bears. By the end of the third quarter, Collinsville had the 26-20 lead. During the fourth, it was a rebounding battle between the two teams. Collinsville held the Lady Bears to only 8 points in the fourth, to claim the win.
Hadley Hamilton led the Lady Panthers with 20 points, scored four 3-pointers, and earned co MVP of the tournament. Hamilton shared the MVP award with a teammate, Tyla Tatum. Tatum finished the night with seven points.
Kamie Sanders led Plainview with 10 points. She was followed by Payton Blevins with 8 points. Blevins also scored her 1,000 career point during the championship game.
