After traveling to Stevenson on Tuesday, the Bears hosted the North Jackson Chiefs on Thursday for game two of the Class-4A Area 16 series. Bears took the series with a 9-0 victory on a cold, rainy, windy afternoon.
Creek Johnson put Plainview on the board first with a single in the first inning that scored one run. The Bears added to their early lead in the bottom of the second with two RBI groundouts from Parker Gonder and Drew Mclnnes, moving the lead to 3-0 for Plainview.
Johnson and Cy Traylor for the Bears were tough for the Chiefs to handle, batting back-to-back in the Plainview lineup. Both had two hits and drove in two runs for the Bears. Plainview’s Trey Rutledge scored two runs to go along with his two stolen bases.
For the game, Plainview totaled six stolen bases and scored nine runs on just eight hits.
Brayden Lingerfelt earned the win for Plainview with a complete game allowing only two hits and recording eight strikeouts.
“We dug ourselves aone to start the year and that was the challenge for our guys, let’s go dig out of it. This is a big area win for us,” said Phil Johnson, Plainview Head Baseball Coach.
Diego Holt led the way for North Jackson going 2 for 3 at the plate. Plainview improves its record to 5-6 (4-1).
