ALABAMA — On Friday, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey stated all K-12 schools in the State of Alabama will close at the end of the day on Wednesday, March 18 and remain closed through at least, April 6 due to COVID-19.

“That gives parents three days to be thinking about child care,” stated Alabama State Superintendent Eric Mackey. Mackey went on to state all school-related sporting events, field trips, and performances will be postponed or canceled through the end of April.

Due to the Governor declaring a state of emergency, the missed school days will not have to be made up.

At the time of press, Alabama has 5 reported cases of COVID-19. There are currently around 1,663 cases in the United States with 40 deaths. Thirty-one of the deaths have occurred in Washington state.
