The Albertville Lady Aggies improved to a 7-1 record on Monday night as they defeated the Anniston Bulldogs 28-7.
“We started off a little rough,” said Albertville head coach Quinton Williams. “We missed some passes and Anniston has some really good players. We knew that coming in, they’re fantastic players. I am glad we had a tough game because it allowed our team to show some grit, to try to be tough and pull through, and they were able to do that.”
The matchup between the Aggies and the Bulldogs started with Anniston producing the first seven points of the game as quarterback Arianna Storey would toss a touchdown to Kamryn Harris to give the Bulldogs an early 7-0 lead.
After a scoreless first quarter by Albertville, the Aggies would produce thirteen second-quarter points to put them back in the lead. The quarter started with Aggie quarterback Henley Kilpatrick tossing a touchdown pass to Ella Brown to make it a tied 7-7 ballgame. To end the first half, Aggie Aven Danne would intercept Storey and return it for six points. The Aggies would claim a 13-7 halftime lead.
The Aggies offense and defense would continue to impress in the second half as Brown would collect her own interception to give Albertville good field positioning. Three plays later the Aggies increased their lead to 19-7 with Kilpatrick collecting her second touchdown with a pass to Zoe Williams. The Aggies would take a 19-7 lead into the final quarter. To start the fourth quarter Albertville’s Journey Williams came up with a big defensive safety to give the Aggies a 21-7 lead. The final score from the Aggies would be another Kilpatrick passing touchdown to Brown. The final score would be 28-7.
“They didn’t let their head get down at the start and they stayed in the game focused. This lets me know that they’re not going to give up and in this region that is what you are going to have to have to make it far. You are going to have to have that grit,” Williams said.
The Aggies were led by Kilpatrick who went nineteen for twenty-eight for 146 yards and three touchdowns. Brown finished with four receptions for fifty-three yards and two touchdowns and an extra point. Brown also had an interception and three flag pulls. Williams finished with five flag pulls, four for sacks. Williams also had three catches for fourteen yards and a touchdown.
Senior Phara Dolne finished with two carries for twenty-seven yards, four catches for fifty-three yards, three flag pulls, two for a loss with one sack.
Next up for Albertville is an away game against Pinson Valley on October 6. Albertville’s next scheduled home game is October 20 when they host JB Pennington. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
