Honoring Heroes in Glenwood Cemetery

Honoring Heroes in Glenwood Cemetery

Staff Reports

DeKalb County is preparing for National Wreaths Across America Day, observed this year on December 13. This annual event will bring together members of the Hannah White Arnett Chapter NSDAR,  DeKalb County VFW Post 3128, American Legion Auxiliary Unit Fort Payne #89 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #215 united to honor local heroes who served in the United States military.

Community members are invited to sponsor wreaths to be lovingly placed on the graves of veterans laid to rest at Glenwood Cemetery. The message is simple, yet profound—“Remember. Honor. Teach.” It is a way to ensure that the sacrifices of veterans will never be forgotten, even long after the echoes of war have faded.

Families, veterans, students, and volunteers come together under the movement’s inspiring motto: #KeepMovingForward. Flyers circulated throughout the county, encouraging residents to make online donations for the Hannah White Arnett Chapter NSDAR, and DeKalb County VFW Post 3128 through www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/AL0115P

Also supporting Glenwood Cemetery are American Legion Auxiliary Unit 89, Fort Payne, and Auxiliary Unit, 215, Mentone.  Their website for online sponsorships for wreaths is www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/AL0161.

For many, it isn’t just laying a wreath on a grave. It is about laying down a symbol of gratitude, and teaching future generations the value of service, sacrifice, and remembrance. Green wreaths will adorn the solemn gravestones with bright red bows to celebrate the lives of those who gave so much.
