Thursday, current DeKalb County Commission President Ricky Harcrow was honored by Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter on the House floor after the Legislative Prayer Breakfast in Montgomery.
“It was a complete surprise to me that Speaker Ledbetter was going to honor me for my years of service in DeKalb County,” said Harcrow. “Nine others and I were invited to Montgomery to speak at the Prayer Breakfast, and after we finished at the breakfast, we went to the House chamber where I opened the Legislative session with a prayer. They asked me to stay, and that’s when, to my surprise, Speaker Ledbetter honored me with a resolution of my 35 years of service to DeKalb County.”
Harcrow will retire in November after serving seven terms on the DeKalb County Commission. Before joining the Commission, Harcrow was the Mayor of Ider and served on the town council. Harcrow also served as president of the Alabama County Commissions Association and he was elected statewide to serve on the RSA or retirement systems of Alabama Board of Control for our county and city employees throughout the state. He will continue to serve on the RSA after his retirement.
“The speaker and everyone were so kind. Thank you to the people of DeKalb County for allowing me to serve them for the past 35 years. It has been a great honor to serve DeKalb County, and Wednesday was one of the highlights of my career,” said Harcrow.
Speaker Ledbetter had this to say about Mr. Harcrow, “I was proud to recognize Ricky Harcrow’s retirement on the House floor this morning. Whether it be his time on the Ider City Council or his leadership of the DeKalb County Commission, Ricky has dedicated his life to serving our community. He’s an incredible leader, an even better man, and someone I’m truly honored to call my good friend.”
