Grimes Appointed as Municipal Judge at Rainsville

RAINSVILLE, Ala. -- The City of Rainsville conducted its regularly scheduled meeting on April 4. Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt and Councilmember Brandon Freeman were absent. 

The Council voted to appoint Dana Grimes as the new Rainsville City Municipal Judge. Grimes will replace Glen Shedd, effective April 4.

Council President, Rickey Bryrum, announced that work on Chavies Road had started and that the contractor had (40) working days to complete the project. Bryrum went on to state those days did not include weekends or rainy days. 

The Council voted to empower Mayor Lingerfelt to sign the Alabama Department Environmental Management (ADEM) Grant application which will rehab the main trunk line from the Wastewater Treatment Plant to Highway 35 Substation in the amount of $673,500. The ADEM grant will pay 100% of the cost of this project.

Council members also empowered Mayor Lingerfelt to sign the application for a Community Project Funding Grant, sponsored by Robert Aderholt’s Office. The grant will award $135,000 funding toward the turn-lane off Highway 75, accessing the proposed site for a new Public Works Facility.

The Council approved a $5,000 sponsorship to the Rainsville Freedom Fest which will be held on June 25. Confederate Railroad will be the featured musical act. 

The Council announced that the Rainsville State of the City will be held on May 9, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Council Chambers. This is an opportunity for citizens to hear from the Mayor and Council where their tax money is being spent. 

In other business, the Council: 

  • Accepted  Emannuel Patterson’s Resignation—Police Department (Effective 03-28-2022)
  • Hired Marvin Hairston Full-Time/Mowing & Maintenance—Public Works Dept (Effective 04-06-2022)
  • Increased the Rainsville Pool Party Price to $150.00 for 2-hours.  The hours for pool parties will be at the times of  5:30-7:30 p.m and 8:00-10:00 p.m. 
  • Bid out the Purchase of a Utility Vehicle for the Rainsville City Park and Sports Complex. Specifications can be found at the Rainsville City Hall. Bids will be opened on April 13 at 12 p.m. 
  • Announced the Professional Administrative Day Luncheon will be held on April 27.

The next regular meeting of the Rainsville City Council will be on April 18. The work session of the meeting will begin at 4 and the regular session immediately following at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
