Friday Night Nuggets

Friday Night Nuggets

How is it already Week 4? Here's a quick look at what to watch for on Friday night.

Crossville Lions (0-3) at Cleburne County

Cleburne County led White Plains 42-0 at halftime last week. The Lions will have to grind it out and hope for a battle of field position to have even a chance in this one. Look for the young Lions backs to continue to develop, even if the growing pains are severe.

Lions +16

Valley Head Tigers (1-2) vs Gaylesville

Gaylesville rolls in 0-3, including a 29-0 loss to common opponent Ider. Valley Head should get back to .500 in this one, but Kirby will have to rally his troops to make sure the season isn't lost early.

Tigers -8

Geraldine Bulldogs (2-1) vs Brindlee Mountain

The question remains, how will the Bulldogs survive without Marcus Davis? The Bulldogs bell cow went down in the 2nd quarter last week with a knee injury, Davis had 190 yards and 2 TDs, and will have season ending surgery on September 30. Luckily, the Dogs face region whipping boy Brindlee Mountain for Homecoming.

Bulldogs  -30

Collinsville Panthers (3-0) at Cleveland

Who's playing for second? This matchup faces the front runners for the #2 place in the region as Fyffe easily disposed of Cleveland in Week 2. Jalyn Martin continues to roll, but the word is "Cleveland plays dirty". This is the first true test for the Panthers in 2A, but 4.4 speed is fast in any classification.

Panthers -6

Sylvania Rams (1-2) at North Sand Mountain

This will be a shootout that the Rams should come out on top in. 2 spread teams will be a fun watch but Mean Green should have too much talent for the Herd. Cambron lights up the scoreboard in this one.

Rams -13

Ider Hornets (2-1) vs Fyffe Red Devils (3-0)

Well, Ider...you had a good run. Both teams are better than they were last season, but the gap between the two may have grown even wider. Ider will have to play ball control and field position to keep it respectable at the Hornets Nest...good luck.

Red Devils -35

Plainview Bears (2-1) vs Sand Rock #TorchGOTW

With Plainview hosting, the Bears shouldn't start the game down 7 before kickoff. The Rock lost 16 seniors from last years squad that beat the Bears on 5th down, so we're not sure how legitimate the 3-0 record is. What we are sure of is how physical the Wildcats always play. I still have a stinger from a game against them in 99'.

Bears -9
