FORT PAYNE, Ala. — The Fort Payne City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, September 1.

Mayor Larry Chesser presented Charles Stephens with the Mayor’s Certificate of Appreciation for his work with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mayor Chesser also presented Stephens with an Army National Guard Challenge Coin.

The Council passed three resolutions at the meeting:

• Resolution 2020-37 which pertains to the canvassing of votes for the Municipal Election that was held August 25.

• 2020-38 authorizing the application of an Airport Improvement Grant for FY 2021.

• 2020-39 authorizing a funding agreement with ALDOT for the Gault Avenue and 5th Street North project.

The Council discussed the need for a speed table on Brian Drive, which is close to Terrapin Hills. According to members of the council, that will greatly help control the speed in that neighborhood.

Plasman requested to extend their parking lot approximately 12 feet upon the City’s property which will enable them to get to the pumping station and drainage ditch. The Council agreed upon this and will allow the Plasman Corporation to chert and gravel the expansion for the time being.

Mayor Chesser gave a report to the Council that the Visitor Center will be moving to the newly acquired Constantine Building until a suitable building could be found closer to the interstate.

The next meeting of the Fort Payne Council will be on September 15.
