FORT PAYNE, Ala. — With temperatures remaining bitter cold throughout the weekend, warming stations are available in DeKalb County to those without heat.
The National Weather Service - Huntsville forecasts temperatures to dip to 11 degrees tonight, with the high only reaching 29 degrees tomorrow. Saturday will see temperatures warm slightly, with a high of 33 and a low of 19. While these bitter temperatures make it unbearable for most of us to go outside, they can mean life or death for the elderly or those without heat.
The cold temperatures also put a strain on heating systems and utilities. If anyone is without heat for any reason, there will be warming stations available if needed.
According to the DeKalb County EMA, warming stations will be available at the Ider Rescue Squad Building and the Ider Fire Department. The Henagar Fire Department and Rainsville Fire Department will also be running a shelter in the event anyone finds themselves without heat and no other option.
In Fort Payne, the city will open a station in conjunction with the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency if needed.
