RAINSVILLE, Ala. — Early Sunday morning, Rainsville Police Officer Tyler Perea pulled over a vehicle for running a red light, with the vehicle coming to a halt near the intersection of West Main Street (Highway 35) and Sam Ellis Dr. After the vehicle was searched, a large amount of Methamphetamine and Marijuana was discovered.
"We recovered approximately 120 grams of methamphetamine and 34 grams of marijuana," said Rainsville Police Chief Kevin Smith.
While Rainsville is generally a quiet town, it's known as the, "Crossroads of Sand Mountain" due to the intersection of Highways 35 and 75, which can lead to a lot of nasty stuff passing through the town on these highways. This requires officers on the night shift to stay alert to vehicles passing through on these highways, with this incident occurring at approximately 1:30 am.
The individual is currently in custody, but his identity is being withheld due to a pending investigation, but Smith was able to report that the man was from Flat Rock, and was charged with Drug Trafficking, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and First Degree Possession of Marijuana.
