ALABAMA — According to a statement posted by state Rep. Danny Garrett (R-Trussville) on Twitter, Governor Kay Ivey (R-Ala.) will make an announcement tomorrow, April 28, on "her plans to begin reopening the state's economy."
Ivey previously stated she would make a decision regarding a phased reopening of the economy on or before Tuesday, April 28. The press conference will be held at 11 a.m. at the State Capitol.
"Nobody wants to get back to work more than I do," the Governor stated. "At the same time, we've got to do it as soon as we can as smart as we can. We don't want to do it too early to invite the virus back in our communities."
Last month, officials announced the closure of non-essential businesses across the State of Alabama before Gov. Ivey issued a "stay-at-home" order on April 3. The current order is set to expire on April 30.
As of midday on Monday, Alabama had 6,467 cases of COVID-19 out of 73,747 tested. Alabama Public Health registered 219 deaths due to the novel coronavirus with 861 hospitalized since March 13.
