NEW YORK, NY — In a shocking conclusion, Republican Donald J. Trump has defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and secured his place as our nation's 45th President.
The election was called (Associated Press) after Trump narrowly wins Pennsylvania, giving him 274 electoral votes to Clinton's 218. Pennsylvania hasn't been won by a Republican nominee since George H.W. Bush's election in 1988.
While a Republican taking Pennsylvania is unprecedented, this result was repeated in several traditionally "lean blue" battleground states.
Michigan is also expected to be called for Trump, another state that hasn't went red since 1988 and another 16 electoral votes.
Trump clinched the victory by securing states that most media outlets have been calling for Hillary Clinton for weeks. Trump unexpectedly (to some) seized the key states of Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Georgia.
While Trump took a dive in the polls several weeks ago after recordings surfaced alleging sexual assault, the real estate mogul turned politician has seen a resurgence in recent weeks following the FBI's announcement that they were reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton.
While the FBI announced Monday before election day that they had reached the same conclusion as the previous investigation (no criminal charges), recent polls gauging trustworthiness and honesty displayed a double-digit lead for Trump in these categories.
According to Fox News, Clinton supporters could already be seen crying at Clinton campaign headquarters in Manhattan, where they expected the former Secretary of State to give a victory speech this evening.
Around 2:00 am EST John Podesta took the stage where Clinton was expected by supporters to appear Podesta urged supporters to go home for now.
