DeKalb County and Fort Payne Schools go to e-learning Friday

The possibility of severe weather is impacting regular school functions in DeKalb County Friday.Brian Jett, Superintendent of Fort Payne City Schools issued this message Thursday afternoon: "Due to the possibility of severe weather in the form of high winds, thunderstorms, and isolated tornadoes, and on the advice of the local E.M.A., Fort Payne City Schools will have a virtual learning day, Friday, January 12, 2024. Students and staff will work from home tomorrow. Additional information will be sent out regarding tomorrow's athletic events."

DeKalb County Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency made the following post Thursday afternoon:

"The US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama and Storms Prediction Center have forecast a slight risk of severe storms tomorrow capable of producing wind gust in excess of 75 mph (straight line wind gust)(Cat 1 Hurricane) with sustained winds of 25 to 35 and wind gust of 35 to 50 mph throughout the day even without severe storms.

For this reason, we have recommended to the school systems to transition to an e-learning day tomorrow for the safety of students and faculty.

Both DeKalb County Alabama Schools and Fort Payne City Schools have transitioned to e-learning tomorrow.

Cornerstone Christian Academy has canceled classes, preschool, and daycare activities tomorrow."
