DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — (Full Video Below) The DeKalb County Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting on August 28, 2018.
Commission President Ricky Harcrow reported that at the 90th Meeting of the Alabama County Commissioners Association, DeKalb County was second in the state of Alabama for its safety program. For this, Harcrow said that the County will get a refund on our insurance premium of almost $45,000 and the premium itself is reduced to $7,000.
Road Department Superintendent Tom Broyles updated the Commission on the second round of herbicide application in Commission District 2, reporting that the work was almost done. The herbicide application will then move on to District 4, where chirt was also be hauled on Tuesday for road repairs. Also, a team is pre-basing materials to reclaim roads across the county via the CDBG grant. The reclamation of County Road 1002 began on Wednesday, while County Road 1001’s work is almost complete.
Ben Luther updated the Commission on the opening of bids for a utility bed and auto crane on a Road Department mechanic truck. They received two bids: one from TerraX Utilities at $34,214.55 and Southeastern Truck Body at $27,880.64. Luther recommended that the Commission accept the second bid and it was approved unanimously.
Luther also announced on behalf of Commissioner Kuykendall that the Bridge Replacement Project on County Road 212 at Big Wills Creek has been completed. The bridge was reopened last week.
The next meeting of the DeKalb County Commission will be held on Tuesday, September 11 beginning at 10am in the DeKalb County Activities Building.
