FORT PAYNE, Ala. — In July, I was contacted by LaRue Hardinger, of the Northeast Alabama Marine Corps League, regarding a story about their first annual, ‘Toys for Tots’ Charity Golf Tournament.
When she mentioned the need for prize donations for the tournament, I quickly asked, “Have you called Bobby Ledbetter?”
And sure enough, by the end of the day, the Northeast Alabama Marine Corps League posted a picture on their Facebook page of a Nissan Altima that would be given away if any golfers made a, ‘hole-in-one.’
I stopped by Twin City Used cars the other day to catch up with Ledbetter and his involvement in the community.
“I believe in giving back,” said Ledbetter. “I try to do everything, school functions, sponsoring leagues, anything for DeKalb County Schools. I try to do something for everyone that stops in.”
“We like to get involved with everything; the city, the county, everything we can do. You can’t take it home and put it in the bag, you’ve got to give back,” he explained.
Just the previous week, Ledbetter had given a church in the area a Ford E550 van. The van was an upgrade from an E350, which had also been donated by Twin City. For somebody that makes his living by selling cars, the scale of his generosity is truly fantastic. While people that live away from Northeast Alabama may be better off going to somewhere like this site for their new car needs, who would not want to purchase a car from somebody that does so much for the community?
Adamsburg Christian Academy also recently received a Nissan Altima to raffle away to raise funds for the new school. Not only does Twin City Used Cars give donations, but Ledbetter and the staff also volunteers at events in the area, including ‘Boom Days’ and the Fort Payne Chamber’s Halloween Block Party.
And not only does the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce have a vehicle to use from Twin City, but Ledbetter also donated one to the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.
“I don’t know of anything I don’t sponsor. If there’s one I don’t, just let me know, because I’ve just missed one,” said Ledbetter, with a smile.
