RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Plainview Bears celebrated Homecoming with a 53-0 shutout win, over the Asbury Rams, Friday night.
The Plainview Bears took control of the game in the first quarter and never looked back scoring 21 unanswered points. The first score of the night came from a 14-yard rushing touchdown by Jathan Underwood, with 10:40 remaining in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was good, giving the Bears the 7-0 lead. The Asbury Rams took possession of the ball but did not keep it for long. Bryson Richey came in with a huge hit that caused a fumble, which the Bears quickly took advantage of. Marcos Vega sailed in from 3-yards out to score, with 6:51 remaining in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was good, giving the Bears the 14-0 advantage. With 4:29 remaining in the first quarter, Dylan McCullough capped off a long drive with a 5-yard scamper into the endzone. The extra point attempt was good, giving the Bears the 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After a blocked punt by Sam Crowell, the Bears took over on the Rams 23 yard line, to start the second quarter. Brody McCurdy rumbled in from 1-yard out. The point-after attempt failed but put the Bears in the driver’s seat with the 27-0 lead with 11:23 remaining in the first half. With 9:38 remaining in the second quarter, McCurdy cashed in with a 46-yard stampede into the endzone, giving the Plainview Bears the 34-0 lead. To cap off the first half, Underwood scored on a quarterback keeper from 30 yards out. The PAT was unsuccessful but gave the Bears the 40-0 advantage going into the half.
The Bears continued to control the second half, scoring twice to seal the Ram’s fate. With 6:49 remaining in the third, Michael Lopez dove into the endzone from 6-yards out. The PAT failed but gave the Bears the 46-0 advantage. To close the game out, Sam Crowell scored the final Bear touchdown from 53-yards out, giving the Bears the 53-0 win over the Asbury Rams.
The Plainview Bears will travel to take on the Geraldine Bulldogs in a Class 3A, Region 7 matchup on Friday night.
