SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — On October 21, 2017, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Sgt. John McCrary received a call of a suspicious vehicle behind the Garth Church on Alabama Hwy 65 at Jackson County Rd 10.

When Sgt. McCrary arrived the vehicle sped off and a pursuit began which ended in Gurley, AL. near Capers Drive. When the vehicle stopped the driver jumped out of the vehicle carrying a backpack and a foot chase began and ended a short distance later with the subject being arrested. The Gurley Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Office assisted in this pursuit and arrest of the three occupants of the vehicle.

Deputies recovered the back pack which contained items used to manufacture methamphetamine along with a small amount of methamphetamine. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located additional amounts of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was called to assist in the investigation and to process evidence.

Arrested in connection with this investigation were: James Cameron Johnson, age 24 of Paint Rock, AL. who was charged with Harassment (outstanding warrant), Fleeing to Elude, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Manufacturing of Methamphetamine 1st degree (Bond $15,900); Ashley Pruitt, age 25 of Henagar who was charged with Promoting Prison contraband 2nd degree, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Manufacturing Methamphetamine (Bond $22,800); Kevin Lee Vess, age 22 of Paint Rock, AL. who was charged with Failure to pay, Illegal Possession of Alcohol Beverage (outstanding warrants), Possession of Methamphetamine and Manufacture of Methamphetamine (Bond $15,709).

All three were transported to the Jackson County Jail.
