Meth and handgun recovered after pursuit in DeKalb County

COLLINSVILLE, Ala. — According to Collinsville Police Chief Gary Bowen, On Monday March 6, 2017 at approximately 1:15 am, Officer Jeremy Bell while on routine patrol on AL Hwy 68 West, attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2001 Mercedes for an equipment violation.

When Bell activated his lights to conduct the stop, the vehicle refused to stop and headed AL Hwy 68 toward Crossville at a high rate of speed. Officer Bell continued pursuit of the vehicle and was joined by Officer Slaton of the Crossville Police Department and K-9 Deputy Akins of the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Dept.

The vehicle continued into downtown Crossville and turned onto Justice St N heading back toward AL Hwy 227. When the vehicle approached the intersection Officer Cagle of the Geraldine Police Dept approached at the same time. The vehicle then ran into a ditch. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and identified as 46 year old Michael Anthony Shores of Albertville.

Upon an inventory of the vehicle officers found a Lorcin .25 caliber handgun in the console of the vehicle. In the backseat of the vehicle officers located a black backpack which contained a laptop computer, set of digital scales with a white powder residue and a plastic container the contained approximately 17 grams of a white powder that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Shores was arrested for reckless endangerment, drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substance and felon in possession of a firearm. He was transported to the Dekalb County Detention Center and booked.
