(Jeff Tubbs, the newly named principal for Scottsboro High School, had his family with him when the official announcement was made at the Thursday meeting of the Scottsboro Board of Education.  His wife is Amanda, and Lauren is their daughter.  Lauren will be a freshman at SHS next year, and her dad has already been her principal at Scottsboro Junior High School.)

Jeff Tubbs has been named as the next principal for Scottsboro High School. This announcement came at a meeting of the City Board of Education Thursday evening. Tubbs is currently the principal at Scottsboro Junior High School. This announcement follows the retirement of SHS Principal Brad Dudley earlier this year.

Tubbs has been in education for 25 years with 18 of those in the City School System. “Throughout his tenure as an educator, Mr. Tubbs has proven himself as a trustworthy, dedicated, and loyal employee,” stated Superintendent Amy Childress in announcing Tubbs as the new SHS principal.

“His experience as a secondary math teacher, coach, assistant principal, and elementary and secondary principal, in addition to serving as the Director of the Career and Technical Education Program have well prepared him to be our next leader at SHS,” added Childress. “These experiences have allowed him to establish trust and build solid relationships within the school district and throughout the community while allowing him to garner the experience needed to continue to move SHS forward with a strong commitment to excellence through innovation while staying true to the traditions that are embedded and valued throughout the school and community.”

“He is a proven leader, a man of integrity, and is committed to continue to remain loyal to his alma mater through his continued servitude to our schools, their families, and our community,” added Childress. “Congratulation, Mr. Tubbs! We are so very proud of you and your accomplishments. SHS is in great hands!”

The official transition of Tubbs to SHS principal begins on June 1. However, he will begin working with the SHS faculty and staff now to begin this process.

Since Dudley retired as SHS Principal, Scott Hodges has served as principal. He and Assistant Principal Allyn Russell have worked together to keep things going at the high school. Hodges had let Childress know that he plans to retire this year.

The search for the new SHS principal began in March. There were 36 applicants who applied for the position in the Teach in Alabama portal with two of those being internal applicants. Childress assembled a team of District Directors to assist with the process. They received input from 278 students and 31 faculty and staff members. Childress also met with the SHS faculty and staff where they shared some of their concerns. “I thank each faculty, staff, and student for taking time to voice concerns and share what they believed to be in the best interest of the high school,” concluded Childress.
