The Marshall County Board of Education called a special meeting last week to welcome the new Chief School Finance Officer, Rebecca Smith.

Marshall County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Cindy Wigley, introduced Smith to the board and those present at the meeting.

“This is Rebecca Smith also known as ‘Becky.’ She comes to us with a very good name. She has worked in our state for a long time and has a very good reputation. She has an incredible skill set as our new CSFO,” Dr. Wigley said.

“She has worked in the Department of State Examiners for 11 years and then she worked for four years at Madison County Commission as an internal auditor. She has been to Scottsboro and Boaz as CSFO for over 10 years combined. That is an incredible skillset for us, and we are so happy that you have that kind of experience coming in. Our District is certainly not an easy one, we have four districts within a district, but we are excited that you are willing to come on and join our team.”

Brian Naugher, President of the Marshall County School Board, echoed Dr. Wigley’s sentiments and praised their former CSFO.

“Welcome aboard. If you look really hard you will see her (Smith’s) boys play in the Million Dollar Band cheering on those pachyderms this Saturday against the dogs,” President Naugher said.

“I want to mention the great things that Bob (Hagood) did do for this district while he was here. He went a long way in the short time that he was with us. He did a lot of great things to set us up for the success we have been willing to achieve so far. Becky, we look forward to you continuing those great things and taking us to the next level. I am super excited about it. We wish Bob and his family well, it’s a good fit next to his house and he will now be able to spend time with his grandkids. He will be missed, and we wish them well, but we know they are getting a great CSFO in Morgan County.”
