Story by Peggy M. Himburg
This week’s outstanding youth is an active member of SkillsUSA and has won awards at their competitions. Seanna Stewart is a senior at North Sand Mountain High School.
Seanna recently won the gold in cosmetology at the SkillsUSA District Competition after placing first in local competition. During the 2024 SkillsUSA Competitions, she placed second in district and third in state competition in cosmetology.
This talented young lady is a student in the Cosmetology Department at the Kevin Dukes Career and Innovation Academy. She has earned her Barbicide Certification, Smart Work Ethics Certification, Be Healthy Initiative Certification, and has her Shampoo Assistant License.
“I love doing hair and makeup in and out of school,” says Seanna. “I love making people feel good about themselves.
English is Seanna’s favorite school subject. “I love writing,” she adds.
Seanna would say to an incoming freshman, “Don’t let the little things put you down and stop worrying about what others think. Just focus on yourself. Once you are a senior, the things you thought were the end of the world freshman year will all become a little easier.”
“Coming to KDCIA has changed my life for nothing but the good,” Seanna says. “I have learned so much in my time here, and I truly wouldn’t change that for the world. I thank all of my instructors here and would recommend KDCIA to anyone.”
Seanna will graduate from high school in May and plans to get her cosmetology license. She would like to start a personal business on her own doing hair and makeup.
In addition to attending school, Seanna works at The Venue at Lilly Lou’s The Bluffs. She says that she enjoys serving there.
Seanna is the daughter of Billy Stewart and has two older siblings. They are Alisha Pearson and Billy Stewart. She has two cats named Tabby and Mocah.
