Skyline High School Sophomore

This week’s featured youth is Isabella Ava’s from Skyline High School. Isabella is a sophomore honor student with a 4.0 GPA. She is also dual-enrolled with Northeast Alabama Community College.
Isabella participates in many extracurricular activities. She’s involved in Senior Beta, Student Government Association, Future Teachers of America, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and Future Farmers of America.
A sporty teen, Isabella stays active in sports at Skyline. She’s on Skyline’s varsity basketball team, varsity softball team and varsity indoor track team. She was a member of Skyline’s varsity softball team when they earned the state championship in 2023.
Isabella’s favorite subject is math. She said it has always come easy to her and she finds it to be the most enjoyable subject. In a math tournament, she placed in the top ten and her team earned second place.
“My advice to freshen would be to enjoy it. Don’t wish it away because you’ll never get this time back. One day soon it will be over and you’ll be in the real world,” Isabella said.
Isabella expects to graduate from Skyline in 2027.
“My favorite thing about Skyline is we’re all genuinely one big family. I could say, ‘hey’ to anyone in the hallway they they would most likely say it back,” she said.
Isabella makes sure to give back to the community through volunteer work. She volunteers at the Hytop and Skyline Fall Festivals every year. She helped clean the school before school starts the past two years. She also helped work the rec league basketball games.
When she’s not busy with academics, athletics or volunteer work, Isabella enjoys spending time with her friend and family. She enjoys riding four wheelers with her sister and going to the gym with her brothers.
Isabella’s father is the late Matt Avans. Her mother is Kami Avans Wright and her step-dad is Kaleb Wright. Her brothers are Will and Weston Avans and her sister is Britian Wright.
When Isabella graduates, she wants to attend Wallace State Community College to pursue her degree to become a diagnostic medical sonographer.
