Fort Payne resident killed in July 4 crash

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — According to a statement released by the Fort Payne Police Department, on July 4, the scene of a single motorcycle accident was discovered in the Pack Road area of Sylvania Gap.

The driver of the motorcycle, Timothy Ledon Smith, age 21 of Fort Payne, was found in a grassy area just off the side of the road. Evidence at the scene determined that Smith was not wearing a helmet at the time of this accident.

Investigator Mike Grant, Accident Investigator Jordan Kelley and Patrolman Josh Sipsy all investigated the accident and concurred that there was no evidence present that suggested another vehicle was involved.

It was determined that Smith was last seen leaving a local restaurant in the early morning hours of Saturday morning. The investigation continues in this case.

Funeral services for Timothy Ledon Smith have been announced for Wednesday, July 6, starting 11 a.m. at the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel. The family will be receiving friends this afternoon from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
