IDER, Ala.--On Easter Sunday night, multiple units were patrolling a high crime area, where frequent complaints from residents, have reported drug activity in Ider.
Chief Stephen Malone and Reserve Officer Gary Chapman observed a vehicle with expired Indiana license plates committing several traffic violations. The Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver attempted to allude police. The suspects reached speeds of upwards to one hundred miles per hour on County Roads and Alabama Highway 75.
The driver lost control of the vehicle on County Road 754 causing it to become inoperable. The driver exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Chief Malone took the driver into custody after she resisted arrest. The passenger remained inside the vehicle and was taken into custody by Officer Chapman.

During a search of the vehicle, multiple types of narcotics were discovered, as well as a Sawed-off shotgun.
The driver was identified as Sabrina Stewart of Fort Wayne, Indiana and the passenger was identified as Riley Hastings of Scottsboro, Alabama.
Mr. Hastings also held active felony warrants with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for Possession of a controlled substance.

Both suspects were taken to the Ider City Jail, pending felony and misdemeanor charges.
“I like my department to be very transparent and allow our community to see what really goes on behind the scenes. There are first responders out at all periods of the night, and just because it's Easter Sunday doesn’t mean there aren’t crimes being committed. We had much rather be at home with our families during the holidays but it’s not always that way in our line of work. There are always more illegal guns, and drugs to be taken off the street and this is an example of just that” stated Ider Police Chief Stephen Malone.
“ I’m very thankful there were no other vehicles on the roadway during this dangerous pursuit and that my officer, my K-9 partner, and the suspects were completely unharmed. I'm thankful to the Henagar Police Department, and the Dekalb and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for sending their Officers and Deputies so quickly to help during this pursuit. I also ask everyone to please pray for a State Trooper who was shot in the line of duty Sunday night, who was also in a pursuit in Escambia County. Thankfully I’ve learned the Trooper is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. We are so blessed to have God's protection over all of us as we try and protect our Cities and Counties” concluded Chief Malone.
