DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office: The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office wants everyone to exercise caution this Spring as we approach this season when scams are underway. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office has already received several reports of two new scams going around.
The first is that scam artists are contacting individuals pretending to be a Bail Bondsman, telling the individuals that they owe them a certain amount of money and if they don't pay they will be arrested and sent to jail.
The second scam going on is that you have won a sweepstakes and that you will need to send a money order or another form of payment in order for them to send you the money that you have won. They are very persistent on you sending them the money, sometimes to a foreign address.
Chief Deputy Edmondson says, "Please be advised that these types of phone calls are scams. If something sounds too good to be true, it is. These are the most common kinds of scams out there, so we cannot stress this enough: please be aware of these types of calls and remember that you do not need to give any personal information to anyone over the phone or send money to someone that you do not know."
